Father Henry Davis’ migration to Romulus, NY from NJ about 1812
The first time we pick up Henry Davis’s whereabouts is the time he left the Princeton area of New Jersey and migrated to Romulus, Seneca County, New Jersey with his family “circa” 1812. In 1812, Henry Davis purchased 136 acres in the township of Romulus, Seneca County (Lot 84) from a Tomkins C. Delevan. We believe this is the year he arrived in Romulus.
I am wondering when Henry was born (we assume 1760-1770) but we do know that based on a note written in a journal kept by Minirva Lorinda Geddes (wife of Randolph’s son Charles Melvin) that Grandfather Henry Davis died Nov 25th, 1836. The would have made Henry fairly old at over 50 years of age when he moved to Romulus.
On the 1820 census for Romulus, Henry is living with his family in Romulus, but I wonder where he was in 1830. On February 6, 1830, Varick Township was formed from the then northern portion of Romulus. On the 1830 census, Henry is not to be found in either Romulus or Varick, but his son Randolph is living in Varick with his family. By 1831 Randolph migrated to Washtenaw County, Michigan.

I do wonder if there could be a common connection between the Henry Davis and Phebe that moved to Romulus NY and the Princeton NJ area (where Henry is purportedly to have come from circa 1812), between Cranberry NJ (where “a” Henry Davis was born 1719 from Henry Davis and Hope FitzRandolph, and New Brunswick NJ (where the Henry born 1719, of Henry and Hope FitzRandolph, married a Margaret Brown in New Brunswick, July 14, 1746).
I also find it intriguing that our Henry Davis’ son Charles’s first wife Phebe was a Brown (daughter of John and Lydia Brown) of New Brunswick, and Charles left Romulus to raise his family in New Brunswick NJ seem to me that they just might have had family connections in New Brunswick. This opens up a number of questions:
1. Could Charles’ wife Phebe Brown (Henry’s daughter-in-law) be related to Margaret Brown who married Henry, son of Henry Davis and Hope FitzRandolph. Source: New Jersey Marriage Records 1665-1800, Genealogical Publishing Company, 1967, page 102; quote: Davis, Henry, New Brunswick, and Margaret Brown, New Brunswick, 1746, July 14. endquote.
2. Since Henry can’t be found in Seneca County in 1830, is it possible he also returned to New Brunswick.
3. There is a Pheobe Davis 91 wid. living with sister Kate 86 both born in NJ (Year: 1880; Census Place: New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey; Roll: T9_790; Family History Film: 1254790; Page: 87B; Enumeration District: 123 ). Could this be Henry’s widow.
4. All these places mentioned are concentrated in a very small area of NJ; Cranberry is only about 8 miles from both Princeton and New Brunswick. Princeton is probably little more than 10 miles from New Brunswick.
I will add more questions here as I think of them.

I wonder if we can find any records of the Browns in New Brunswick prior to 1740?
